Career Coaching

You’re ready for a change.

Maybe you like your job, but pieces of it leave you overwhelmed and you’re not sure how much longer you want to do it. Or maybe you know this job isn’t the job for you. Maybe you’re burned out, or maybe you’re just bored. You’re thinking you might want to switch jobs in the next year, but you don’t know where to start. You aren’t sure what the right next role is, or you have an idea but are afraid to share it with a bunch of lawyers. Maybe you’ve identified the ideal role, but want help telling your story in interviews and on your resume.

Career coaching can help.

In my practice, I focus on helping you identify your top strengths -- the things that feel energizing to you, and on telling your story in a way that emphasizes these strengths. Having a story will help with every aspect of the process, from resumes to interviews. If you’re switching careers or roles, we’ll also map out the ways your experience translates to the roles you’re interested in.

Let’s find the perfect role for you.

I have extensive experience with the hiring process at large tech companies and received job offers from both Facebook and Google. At Facebook, I was also an interviewer, so I can provide insight into both sides of this process. I also interviewed candidates at smaller start-ups such as Climb Credit, and led hiring as Quill.org scaled from 8 to 21 team members, including creating a systematic hiring process, developing interview questions, and interviewing dozens of candidates.

I’ve either had or worked closely with people in almost every tech role, including product management, marketing, operations & support, legal & policy, and partnerships & sales. I’ve worked at both for profits and a non-profit, and worked at companies ranging in size from <10 people to thousands. So if you aren’t sure what role or company is right for you, I can work with you on finding your best fit.

Professional Development

As a coach, I’ll act as a sounding board as you gain more understanding of your unique strengths and your company’s dynamics. Through this process you’ll discover solutions that work for you.

Even if you aren’t searching for a new job, 1:1 coaching can help you you develop your strengths, find solutions to any issues you’re facing, and achieve your goals.

Here are some example situations that I’ve coached people through:

Starting a new role with more responsibility and balancing the different demands of the role.

  • Founding a start-up, clarifying product strategy, fundraising and building a team.

  • Dealing with a challenging manager, teammate, and/or direct report.

  • Managing burn-out.

  • Optimizing communication style and minimizing misunderstandings in interpersonal and written communications.

  • Setting boundaries with co-workers.

  • Charting a path for career development within one’s current role.

  • Deciding whether to find a new role and, if so, what types of roles to target.

My approach is client-centric, so you’ll always be the one choosing our conversation topics.

As a coach, I’ll ask questions, actively listen, and hold you accountable for goals and action items. I practice flexible, goal-oriented coaching, so I’ll probably ask you to set a goal early on, but also expect that the goal will change.

Except for our first session, you’ll likely do more of the talking. If you ask me for advice I’ll be happy to share, but chances are I’ll ask you what you think first. I’m a sounding board who can help you see things in new ways and spark new insights, but I believe that you’re always best positioned to solve your problems -- I’m here to facilitate.

I charge $200 an hour for individual coaching, and also offer a sliding scale rate. For more information on the sliding scale, please email me at tltcoaches@gmail.com.
